A Kauai vacation is considered a top choice because of the various beautiful sights as well as the traditions that make it one majestic island. Find out more about the place especially its unique layout and geography.

About the Island

The name Kauai probably originated from Hawai?iloa, the Polynesian explorer who is known to have discovered Hawaii. Hawai?iloa was said to have a favorite son whom he named the island after. It also translates to ?food season? or ?place around the neck? just as how a father would lift his favorite child. The population in the island ranges over 60,000. The United States Census Bureau defines Kauai as Census Tracts 401 to 409. This includes all of Kauai County except for the islands Lehua, Ni?ihau and Ka?ula.

Kauai or Kaua?i is the oldest and fourth largest main island in the Hawaiian archipelago. It is also the 21st largest island in America which lies 105 miles across the Kaua?i Channel, just northwest of O?ahu. It is also called ?Garden Isle? with blooming flora and fauna, great weather and captivating volcanoes.

The island is of volcanic origin with Kawaikini the highest peak standing at 5,243 feet and Mount Wai?ale?ale at the center of Kauai at 5,148 feet. It is one of the wettest places in the plant with annual rainfall resulting to deep valleys, canyons and waterfalls.

Truthfully, the only difference between you and Kauai Vacation experts is time. If you’ll invest a little more time in reading, you’ll be that much nearer to expert status when it comes to Kauai Vacation.

Lihue Airport is the main air transportation hub of the island. There are several towns and cities all over Kauai but majority of the distinctive ones are located from the northern tip of Hawaii Route 560 to the western end of Hawaii Route 50. Some popular places include Kapa?a, Lihu?e, Wailua, Princeville, Hanalei, Hanapepe, Kilauea, Lawa?i and Anahola.

Kauai resembles the shape of an almost perfect circle over an area of 552 square miles. The location provides warm waters from the Pacific Ocean as well as great temperature any time of the year. About half of the shoreline of the island is comprised of Kauai vacation beaches. You can expect to find some very rare species of animals and plants both on and off shore such as bamboo, orchid, hibiscus, sandalwood, eucalyptus, java plum, kiawe, iwi, nene goose, sea turtle, whale, dolphin and humuhumunukunukuapuaa.

What to Expect

You get to enjoy several open and commercial beaches all across the island as well as the vast richness of marine life. Hiking is another great Kauai vacation activity because of its mountainous regions specifically the Waimea Canyon or the ?Grand Canyon of the Pacific? rising up to 4,000 feet. Another popular site is the Napali Coast featuring captivating coastline views, free-flowing waterfalls, secret sea caves and tall cliffs.

Enjoy the tropical weather of a Kauai vacation all-year round. Temperatures also drop later in the afternoon for cooler nights. There are micro-climates on the island wherein both lush and dry areas exist Mount Waialeale has a beautiful rainforest having more than 400 inches of rain per year.

Other areas usually have sunny days and warm breezes and surrounding sites around the peak are generally unaffected by the rain. Coastal spots have an average of 18 inches of rain annually. Rainfall usually occurs at night.

That’s the latest from the Kauai Vacation authorities. Once you’re familiar with these ideas, you’ll be ready to move to the next level.

The History Of Recycling

Are you looking for some inside information on Recycling? Here’s an up-to-date report from Recycling experts who should know.

Recycling, or the method of re-processing and reusing waste items and materials, has long been practiced by many societies. Artifacts and archeological studies have indicated that as early as 400 BC, ancient waste dumps have shown less household wastes, especially during periods where there was a reported scarcity in resources. The lack of household wastes in ancient dumpsites has clearly shown that more waste was being recycled, due to the scarcity of new materials.

Recycling During The Pre-Industrial Age

During pre-industrial times, there was clear evidence of the collection of scrap metals like bronze, iron and steel in Europe. These scrap items were often melted down and formed into new products.

In medieval England, people collected ash and dust from wood and coal fires, and these were used as base material for brick-making. During these times, recycling was motivated by the economic advantage of getting recycled feedstock, instead of simply buying new raw materials. The absence of a public waste removal and disposal system also made recycling a necessary task during these times.

The Lack Of Resources Encouraged Recycling During Wartime

Once you begin to move beyond basic background information, you begin to realize that there’s more to Recycling than you may have first thought.

The outbreak of two major world wars in the early 20th century brought crippling shortages of precious natural resources. These major world-changing occurrences dipped available resources, and forced governments to encourage recycling. During World Wars 1 and 2, governments urged their citizens to conserve wood, paper, textiles, fiber, and even donate metals and precious jewelry. During these timess, governments and private businesses organized strict resource conservation programs, which were often continued even after the war ended.

Recycling During The Post-War Era

Recycling went full steam even after World War 2 ended. During the 1970?s, rising energy costs and the oil embargo forced companies and governments to heavily invest in recycling initiatives. The idea of placing a recycling trailer behind the back of a waste management vehicle allowed for the easy collection of garbage and recyclable materials in most US cities.

The economic boom of the post-war years eroded the ideals of conservation and the wise use of resources from the consciousness of most people in the developed world. However, the growth of the environmental movement, and the celebration of the first Earth Day in 1970 put conservation and recycling back in the mainstream. While recycling has not yet been fully accepted by some societies, recent figures suggest that public acceptance, and the market for recycled products, has significantly risen. Today, most cities and towns have laws and enforced systems for collecting and handling recyclable material.

One of the major reasons for the increasing popularity of recycling, is the need for reducing the amount of garbage sent to landfills. The recycling initiatives of today have already diverted 32 percent, or 60 million tons of garbage, from our landfills.

Recycling Paper Saves Trees, And Reduces Greenhouse Emissions

Paper is a fine, thin material that’s commonly used for writing and packaging. Paper is produced by pressing moist fibers like cellulose together. The cellulose pulp is generally derived from wood, grass or rags, which are dried into flexible sheets.

Paper is a versatile material, which offers a wide array of uses. Paper has been used for centuries, from the 2nd Century in China, to the water-powered paper mills of medieval Europe. While paper has been a very important aspect of our lives, the careless and wasteful use of it can lead to a mounting garbage problem.

The production of paper also is costly, and during these times where we hear a lot of horror stories regarding environmental degradation and pollution, the quest to save our forests requires that we lessen our consumption of paper and other wood by-products.

Paper Recycling Helps Save The Forests

As the demand for paper and wood increases, more and more timber is required to meet the ever-growing demand for wood pulp. In most cases, this means the irreparable loss of wildlife habitats and ecosystems, because old-growth forests are often replaced by forest plantations. This helps explain why recycling paper does more than save trees, since it also helps save the wildlife habitats and ecosystems that rely on them. Here are a few simple but helpful paper recycling tips to keep in mind.

You can see that there’s practical value in learning more about Recycling. Can you think of ways to apply what’s been covered so far?

- Make it a point to regularly collect old newspaper, office papers and magazines from the office, or from your neighbors, and initiate a used paper collection drive. The old newspapers and used office papers can be sent to a recycling center, while the old magazines can be reused in clinics, nursing homes or libraries.

- At your office, encourage the use of electronic mails instead of constantly writing office memos. Also promote the use of copiers or printers which have an option to print or copy on both sides. Also encourage your coworkers to actively participate in any recycling program.

- At home, encourage family members to use both sides of paper. Educate your kids and other family members about the importance of paper recycling, and teach your children to bring home the paper they used in school, instead of throwing them. You can also request your kid’s school to initiate their own recycling programs.

Trees not only serve as sources of paper or packaging materials, but also serve as a natural habitat for many birds and animals. They also provide us shade, fresh air, and prevent flooding too. Trees also absorb carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, which affect the earth’s temperature. This helps to explain why recycling paper is very important, because our survival depends on how we carefully manage our planet’s resources.

Now you can be a confident expert on Recycling. OK, maybe not an expert. But you should have something to bring to the table next time you join a discussion on Recycling.

Managing Rosacea

The following article includes pertinent information that may cause you to reconsider what you thought you understood. The most important thing is to study with an open mind and be willing to revise your understanding if necessary.

Rosacea starts out like any other common skin disease where the victims usually begin with a tendency to flush or blush easily. As rosacea progresses, the victims usually develop redness in the centers of both their cheeks.

The redness, after a time, spreads gradually beyond the nose and the cheeks. It then goes to the forehead and the chin, and on some people, even the ears, chest and back are affected.

The face of rosacea

Tiny blood vessels they call spider veins develop on their faces, especially on both their cheeks. After a while, small red bumps develop and appear in crops. Some of these red bumps contain pus (pustules) and those without pus are called papules.

These red bumps look like acne, and people usually call them adult acne. However, the affected skin swells and these bumps do not develop into blackheads.

Other symptoms

In advanced cases, rhinophyma may develop. Rhinophyma makes the nose larger (?bulbous nose?) and the cheeks puffy. These are caused by the enlarged oil glands.

At the lower half of the nose, thick bumps also develop. Usually, this condition tends to develop more in men than in women.

About half of rosacea victims develop what is called ocular rosacea, affecting the eyes.
It often causes dryness, burning and grittiness of the eyes. If left untreated, it can develop into serious complications, including blindness.

The more authentic information about Rosacea you know, the more likely people are to consider you a Rosacea expert. Read on for even more Rosacea facts that you can share.

Tips for patients

There are so many things that can trigger rosacea flare-ups. To help decrease these, the following are recommendations from dermatologists taken from data supplied by the victims themselves.

Avoid certain foods and drinks. Spicy foods, caffeine, hot drinks, and alcohol ? these are just some of the most common triggers for rosacea. Alcohol is bad for both drinkers and non-drinkers alike. Even the smell of spicy foods triggers some reactions to those allergic to them.

Always have a good sun protection. Exposure to the sun seems to be the most common trigger. Limit your exposure to sunlight, but if you do, wear some SPF30 sunscreen and re-apply them every 2 hours.

Guard your skin from extreme heat or very cold temperatures. Either one aggravates rosacea. Protect your face from cold and wind with a non-irritating scarf or ski mask. Do not overheat. Exercise in a cool place.

Do not use skin care products or any cosmetics that contain alcohol or other irritating substances. When using hair sprays, avoid having the spray get in contact with your face.

Avoid rubbing, scrubbing or massaging the face. As much as possible, keep your face clean and avoid having to touch it unless necessary. Keep your skin care routine simple and use fewer products.

It is important to note the episodes when your flushing occurs. The above list is just the common triggers that happen to most rosacea victims. There are other triggers not listed here.

By writing down and taking notes to what foods, products, activities, medications and other things that triggers your rosacea, you would be able to exactly know them to be able to avoid them.

Now you can be a confident expert on Rosacea. OK, maybe not an expert. But you should have something to bring to the table next time you join a discussion on Rosacea.

Save Money on Candle Making Supplies

Candle making can be a great past time, hobby, or business venture. While the supplies for candling making are remarkably inexpensive, the cost does start to add up over time. There are many ways you can cut back the cost of the candle making supplies, but I caution you not to sacrifice the quality of the products you purchase just to save a few dollars. This is especially important for those who sell their candles. If the quality of the product goes down because you are buying wax and other supplies that are of less quality, you will end up costing your business money over the long haul.

Keep a list of the candle making supplies you use. Include the brand, the price, and the amount of the item you get for that price. This will help you compare the prices with sales you run across and know if you are getting a better deal or not. Many craft stores run sales on candle making items before and right after the holidays. This can be a great time to stock up.

Checking online auction sites including Ebay and Yahoo Auctions can often be an excellent way to find the same candle making products you use at a discounted price. It could be that the seller of the items doesn?t have the time to make candles anymore or they simply have moved on to other things.

Hopefully the information presented so far has been applicable. You might also want to consider the following:

If you use a large volume of candle making supplies on a regular basis, consider buying them wholesale. You will pay more up front for your supplies, yet overall you will save a considerable amount of money. You can search such wholesalers on the internet and compare prices. Many online wholesalers offer free shipping as well so that is another area where you can save money if you normally purchase your candle making supplies online. If you know other people who make candles as well consider buying in bulk and sharing the cost as well as the supplies. This is an easy way for everyone to get a discount as well as reduce the cost at the time of purchase.

Some of the discount candle making products on the market are very comparable to the quality products you already use. A good way to tell is to compare the ingredients. You can research the necessary ingredients of each item on the internet. If the discount products contain all the major ingredients as the candle making supplies you already use, then give it a try. It is recommended that you only purchase one or two items at first to test the quality. Keep track of where you purchased the discounted items so you can return to that retailer or online store if you are happy with the quality of the products.

Containers and holders for your candles are one area you should never spend a great deal of money on. I won?t recommend buying them for regular price unless they are for a wedding or other very special occasion. You can buy mason jars, extra glassware, votive holders, and many other containers to use candle making at thrift stores and garage sales for a very reasonable price. You might also check the online auctions to purchase large quantities at a very good prices.

Now might be a good time to write down the main points covered above. The act of putting it down on paper will help you remember what’s important about Candle Making.

What?s The Best Way For Recycling Cardboard?

The word cardboard generally refers to any heavy-duty paper product. The most common form of cardboard is corrugated cardboard. This type features a wavy cardstock sheet that?s squeezed between two other cardstock sheets.

Corrugated cardboard is made from sturdy and long-lasting material, and is best used for packaging. The production of cardboard is often considered a costly one, because more resources are required to complete it. The good thing is that cardboard can be recycled. Here are a few tips for the proper recycling of cardboard.

Which Types Of Cardboard Can Be Recycled?

According to recycling experts, two types of cardboard can be recycled. These are flat cardboard and corrugated cardboard. Flat cardboard is generally used in packing cereal and shoe boxes, while corrugated cardboard is often used in packing boxes, because it has a ruffled layer between two pieces of cardboard. These two variants can easily be recycled through your tow o city?s curbside recycling program.

While it?s quite rare to find 100 percent recycled cardboard material, most recycling facilities create a blend of both recycled and new material, to make the end-product much sturdier. The packaging may sometimes be identified as using ?25% recycled or post-consumer material?.

You can see that there’s practical value in learning more about Recycling. Can you think of ways to apply what’s been covered so far?

How To Recycle Cardboard

? Before you contact your local recycling facility, first tear or break down all the cardboard boxes you have at home, until they are flat in a stack. You may also need to break cardboard down, depending on your town or city?s recycling program, so that it easily fits in a brown paper bag. You may also bring it along with your mixed paper wastes.

? Cal or notify your local community recycling facility, and find out whether they accept corrugated and flat cardboard. If your local recycling program doesn?t accept one or both cardboard types, then take your boxes to the local supermarket, since most supermarkets will take in the boxes.

? Also determine whether your local recycling facility accepts or recycles waxed cardboard. Waxed cardboard types include milk and juice cartons. Call your state or county recycling department for more information regarding waxed cardboard recycling.

These days, it?s easy for consumers to recycle the cardboard items they have at home. Most city and municipal recycling agencies collect different types of cardboard, along with other common recyclables such as metal, glass, plastic, textiles, aluminum and electronic products. Consumers can also deliver cardboard by bulk to a recycling facility. By promoting the recycling of cardboard and other materials, we help promote the use of recycled materials, and also help reduce the number of trees that need to be harvested for producing paper products such as cardboard.

So now you know a little bit about Recycling. Even if you don’t know everything, you’ve done something worthwhile: you’ve expanded your knowledge.

Making Votive Candles

Votive candles are simple, yet beautiful. These candles are often used to accent a center piece or design. Often it entails more than one votive candle, but not always. Votives are very cost effective because they burn for about fifteen hours. Votives must have a holder as they are not safe to use as a free standing candle.

Many individuals choose to use votive candles in their jack-o-lanterns at Halloween because they burn for a long time and illuminate the entire face of the jack-o-lantern. They are also one of the easiest types of candles to make. For beginners in the area of candle making votives provide a great learning experience to learn the basics of the candle making process.

To get started, you will need to gather your votive candle items. This includes wax, molds, a double boiler, and a thermometer. You will need to have wick and wick tabs for votive candles. The wick tabs serve as a base for the candle. You can choose to purchase dye and fragrance if you wish for your votive candles. To ensure your candles will form properly in the molds, consider investing in mold spray to keep them clean and lubricated.

Hopefully the information presented so far has been applicable. You might also want to consider the following:

Once the wax has melted, add in any colors and fragrances. Immediately pour the melted wax into the molds, filling them to the lip of the mold. For easy clean up, place old newspaper under the wax molds before you pour the wax into them. You will need to save about 20% of the melted wax for the next pouring process.

While the wax is cooling in the molds, prepare your wicks. Attack a wick several inches longer than the mold to a wick tab. Dip the wicks into the hot wax. Keep an eye on the votive molds as they won?t take as long to cool as other types of candles. Once you can tell the wax is starting to harden, insert a wick with the tab into each mold through the bottom. As the wax continues to cool, it will meld to the metal tab, ensuring it stays in place at the base of the candle. As the candles cool, make sure your wick is staying in the center of the votive.

Once the wax has completely cooled, you will notice a sink hole in it due to shrinkage. You will want to pour melted wax into the molds again to remedy this. Make the wax about fifteen degrees hotter than the original wax you used to fill the votives. After the candles have completely cooled again, they will slide out of the molds easily. Trim the wick to about ½ an inch from the top of the candle. For safety, you will want to use a votive holder that is an inch or two taller than the candle itself.

Votive candles add class and charm to any home or special occasion. They are fun and simple to make. You can add any color or scent to your votive candles to add a personal touch to them. Votive candles burn for a long time, making them a worth while candle to use. They also make excellent gifts. To make the process even less expensive, look for votive candle holders at thrift shops and yard sales. You can further personalize your votive candles by applying pretty ribbon with a hot glue gun around the rim of the votive candle holder.

Now you can be a confident expert on Candle Making. OK, maybe not an expert. But you should have something to bring to the table next time you join a discussion on Candle Making.

Rosacea, The Skin Problem You Did Not Know You Had??

When most people think of Rosacea, what comes to mind is usually basic information that’s not particularly interesting or beneficial. But there’s a lot more to Rosacea than just the basics.

Women put blush on make up on their faces to have that natural flush. So when women get red-cheeked when they are exposed to the sun for a long time, they don’t think it’s a problem. Well, it is. Redness in some areas of the face can be a sign that you have rosacea. Rosacea is a common skin problem that usually affects Caucasians. Thus it has been called “the curse of the celts.” It has, in fact, affected about 16 million Americans and almost 46 million people all over the world.

It is three times more common in women than in men. Besides redness that is often mistaken for sunburn, rosacea is also characterized by watery eyes an appearance of blood vessels on the skin. Rosacea cannot be cured. The most that people afflicted with it can do is to control it’s symptoms. This is fortunately easy because rosacea’s symptoms are not regular. Usually they only have flare ups when there are triggers. Examples of common triggers are sun exposure, spicy food, skin products, some food and dairy products. For those who have only mild symptoms, treatment is as simple as avoiding contact with various triggers.

Those who have more extreme symptoms need continuous medication and treatment. And this is life long treatment. People who stop medications often go in remission and experience the same symptoms. But having rosacea isn’t such a bad thing. Unlike other diseases, it is not actually dangerous and it does not affect any organs in the body. However, it can be a problem if the redness reach the area of the eyes which can hamper vision. People whose eyelids are affected exercise hygienic routines to deal with the problem. Below are some of the simple ways that they can deal with rosacea flare up.

Is everything making sense so far? If not, I’m sure that with just a little more reading, all the facts will fall into place.

1. Don’t drink and smoke
Believe it or not, rosacea can be triggered by smoking and alcoholic drinks. So to those who cannot stop these vices, here is another reason why you should.

2. Avoid sun exposure
Most people afflicted with rosacea suffer from flare ups when they stay under the sun for too long. And it’s not just about the direct heat of the sun, even humidity and indoor heat can be triggers. It seems that when the temperature of the body rises, break outs occur. This is perhaps also the reason why spicy foods are also known to cause rosacea flare ups. Spiciness can increase the body’s temperature.

3. Go to the doctor
For extreme cases that cannot anymore be managed by simply avoiding the triggers, go immediately to the doctor. Rosacea can get worse with age especially when it is not treated soon. Doctors will often prescribe medicines that can help you manage the problem. There will be no cure but at least you will have fewer break outs.

4. Record your meals
There are food products that can cause rosacea break outs. There are a lot from meat and dairy products to even vegetables. The trick is to find out soon which foods trigger the problem. Recording which food you ate before you had a break out will certainly help.

You have to remember that living with diabetes is hard. This is why you need to understand people who have diabetes go through the denial phase. This disease can take a toll in a person’s psychological health. Some get really depressed and stressed that it will aggravate the condition more.

By doing this, it will help in accepting the disease and that they have to live with it for the rest of their lives. The key here is to help the person suffering from diabetes to accept that they have the disease.

Another way to get the person diagnosed with diabetes to readily accept the disease as already part of their life is to educate them about diabetes. You have to remember that although diabetes is a very serious condition, there are ways to manage it effectively to the point that they will be able to live a normal life.

Once the person suffering from diabetes accepts that he or she has the disease, the easier it will be for them to live life. All it takes is a little support and education. Through these things, you can be sure that you will be able to help someone cope with diabetes.

Always keep in mind that diabetes can easily be managed if the person suffering from the disease accepts it and try to live with it as best he or she could. Through acceptance, life with diabetes will be easier for them to live.
