In San Antonio, he continued his rebound efforts and let center David Robinson focus on scoring, allowing his teammate to win the scoring title. This was the first time teammates had ever won the scoring and rebounding titles. The following season was the best in franchise history for the Spurs, thanks to Rodman’s talent, with 62 wins. However, despite his great game, his high publicity antics (on AND off court) was too much for the team to deal with, and when he failed to arrive for the fifth game of the conference finals with the rest of the team, his stint with the Spurs came to an end.
His numerous tattoos and piercings, ever changing hair color to unnaturally bright colors (before it was trendy), his brief marriage to Carmen Electra (a model and actress), and his donning a wedding dress for a public appearance, are all highly controversial stunts that have led media to write him off as basketball’s “bad boy”. However, he is an advocate of anti-drug campaigns for youths and now attempts to use his infamy to reach an otherwise apathetic audience.
Dennis Rodman was not much of an offensive player but will forever be known as a defensive mastermind.
