Make Money Online - Chitika and AdSense
You may have noticed an interesting new kind of advertising thathas taken the internet by storm over the last few months. It'sthe Chitika"eMiniMall". It displays targeted product advertisements, with a picture, descriptive text, and some useful features. TheeMiniMall is a tiny tabbed pane, which allows the user to get adescription, reviews, and the best prices for the given item. Ifthe item isn't what you want, there's a search tab to allow youto search the Chitika partner sit...
...es, without even leaving thepage. So the question on everyone's mind is whether this is going tobe as big as Google AdSense. I think the answer is that they arevery different animals, and they might compliment each othernicely. Google AdSense text ads are designed to be unobtrusive.Unless you pick clashing colors, they blend nicely with the siteon which they're displayed. The Chitika ads, while not ugly, tend to catch the eye more with their pictures and tabs. Oncethey've caught the eye, they offer the added advantage ofallowing the user to interect with the ad without even leavingthe page. The hope, clearly, is that the user will becomeinterested enough at some point to click on an ad.Google AdSense ads will appeal to a certain type of reader. Onewho has been desensitized to loud, colorful ads may still read atext ad that blends nicely with the site. The Chitika ad,however, may attract attention from the user whose eye might becaught by an interesting picture, and the chance to get somequick information on a cool product. The good news is that the Terms and Conditions of both companiesare compatible. You can display ChitikaeMiniMalls on the same page as Google AdSense ads. The onlycatch is the Chitika ads cannot be run in "contextual" mode.Google ads, as you probably know by now, are tailored to thecontent on the current page. A Google crawler looks at thecontent of the page, and atttempts to serve up relevant ads thatwill be more likely to result in clickthroughs. Chitika, similarly, has the capability to serve up relevant productsbased on the text of your page. The Google terms and conditionsspecifically prohibit displaying contextual ads on the same pageas AdSense ads, however. Thankfully Chitika offers an easy wayto turn this feature off. In fact, so many people use Chitika inconjunction with AdSense, that contextual mode is turned off bydefault when you sign up for Chitika. That's really not a big deal, in my opinion. Serving upcontextually relevant products is going to be a lot moredifficult than serving up a good AdSense ad, in my opinion. Forexample, on my site, "work from home" generates a Chitika ad fora men's work shirt. Not exactly what the average reader islooking for. Chitika lets you pick and choose keywords you'dlike to use in selecting ads. These can be vague categories like"video game", or specific products like "playstation grand theftauto 4".In summary, I think Chitika and Google AdSense ads will workwell in conjunction. It takes only a minute or two to sign upfor a Chitika account, and it's free.-->More info on Chitika.
