Work Is Where You Find It!

Work Is Where You Find It! To paraphrase the title of a cowboy story I read when I was achild called "Gold is where you find it". The corporates and governments are downscaling downsizingstreamlining optimising economising out-contractingsub-contracting black-empowering et-cetera et-cetera but allwith the same end result; employing less and less people. Less and less young people find work in the formal sectors afterleaving schools, colleges and universities. My brother-in-la...

...w and my brother recently discussed the jobopportunities of our children, and people in general, in SouthAfrica. To a greater or lesser degree this applies to mostcountries. My brother has been self-employed for many years while mybrother-in-law works for a university and state hospital. Brother-in-law: " I don't know where my children will find workwhen the finish their studies! There just isn't work outthere." My brother: "Nonsense! The opportunities abound out there. Maybenot as employees in the corporate or government sectors, butdefinitely in the SME's and informal sectors. Working foryourself means that you can really cash in on the opportunities" Brother-in-law: "The economy is going to the dogs. There is nowork. Everyone is getting poorer!" My brother: "Nonsense! Just look at all the new propertydevelopments; new houses, new shopping centres, new officecomplexes going up every day. Look at the number of peopledriving new, top of the range BMW's, Merc's, RUV's, 4x4's. Youhardly see an old car on the road." Same question, totally opposed points of view! And both are right! Why is that? My brother-in-law comes from the "safe" work environment ofgovernment service and yes, the opportunities for employment inthe government and corporate sectors are diminishing. My brother comes from the "risky" work environment ofself-employment and as the corporates and governments downscaledownsize streamline optimise economise out-contract sub-contractblack-empower the SME's (Small and Medium Enterprises) and theinformal sector is picking up the slack and many of them aremaking fortunes providing products and services the Big Boys andBig Brothers are not supplying anymore or where they have becomeinefficient. Last night I was talking to my nephews, both twenty-somethings,and I mentioned that the job market and opportunities have "GoneGlobal". The Internet has made it possible for an individual to farm outskills worldwide and do work in one country while living inother. Gone are they days where you need to been tied down by yourgeographical location. Gone are the days where you need to work for a pittance nearyour home. Gone are the days where you need to search the "Help Wanted"adverts in your local paper for too few jobs for too manyapplicants. The Internet has created the opportunity for employmentworldwide. The Internet has created the opportunity for doing freelancework globally. The Internet has created the opportunity for anyone to set up abusiness and to trade anywhere in the world. The Internet has created the opportunity to work from homeanywhere in the world. The Internet has created the opportunity for people withoutmajor financial backing to become self-employed andself-sufficient. People of all ages, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds andfinancial strengths are using the Internet to gain independence,to become self-employed, to gain their freedom. I've put together some resources to assist you: - Freelance Work Worldwide: http://freelance.webmarketingsa.co.za - Online Job Search: http://jobsearch.webmarketingsa.co.za - Get Paid for Surveys: http://www.webmarketingsa.co.za/surveys - Build Multiple Income Streams:http://www.webmarketingsa.co.za/affiliate-programs - HomeBusiness Resources: http://ebiz.webmarketingsa.co.za - Internet Business Blueprint: http://blueprint.webmarketingsa.co.za The shocking thing about my discussion with thesetwenty-somethings is that they are not aware of theopportunities the Internet has to offer. And they are part ofthe so-called "computer generation"! They learnt nothing about it at school or at college. They are not aware of the potential. The other day I popped in at the business school of the localuniversity to see what training courses they offer related toInternet marketing and guess what? Nothing! These are the institutions that are supposedly preparing ouryoung people for the future and they live in the 20thCentury. These are the institutions that offer short courses, diplomasand degrees to our present and future businesspeople andemployees - and they provide a 20th Century education. The future is out there on the Internet, the opportunities areliterally endless, and people are starving because of a lack ofknowledge.
